After a long night of labor and no sleep for us or her, River had 9 puppies. We thought she was building her own soccer team when the first seven puppies were all boys. The last two born were finally girls. Cheerleaders for the team, we thought!
Here are pictures of the puppies the day they were born, March 19, 2004
3/28/04: And here are some individual portraits when they were 9 days old. Some are already lifting their bodies off the ground and waddling around using all four legs.
3/30/04: At least one is just starting to open his eyes (Purple boy). Just tiny little slits today.
4/10/04: Here they are trying to let mom know that they are hungry! They are 22 days old.
4/11/04: I've been doing taxes all day. The puppies had their first solid food today. They are 23 days old.
4/18/04: It's been a weekend of carting with Rebel for Sandee. The puppies have been gaining weight rapidly and are starting to play quite a bit. They are 30 days old.
4/25/04: We had some out-of town visitors today: Jim, Megan, and Isabella from Roseburg, Oregon, and Melinda from California. They got to see the puppies at day 37.
4/29/04: We're getting ready to leave for the 2004 FCRSA national specialty. The puppies have been playing outside. Here they are snoozing. As you might guess it was cooling off in the afternoon. It's very hard to leave them, even for just a few days. But we know Stephanie and Mandy will take very good care of them.
5/10/04: We're back. The puppies have grown tremendously. They are ready to start heading off to their new homes. We take pictures before they go:
- Light Green boy (liver male). His name is Danner. He lives with Jim & Megan & Isabella in Roseburg, Oregon.
- Light Orange boy (liver male). His name is Barkley. He lives with Sharon and family in Topanga, California, with his flat-coat great-uncle Woody, who is River's uncle and grandma Scarlett's brother.
- Rust boy (liver male). His name is Niche, or Gondolin's Tree and Leaf. He now lives with Katrin in Foxboro, Massachusetts. He'll be doing agility when he grows up. Katrin also has Regal, River's flat-coat half-brother (out of Scarlett and Tucker).
- Purple boy (liver male). His name is Sky, He now now lives with Dana in Marysville, Washington.
- Teal boy (black male). His name is Remmy., Gondolin's Brandywine River. He now lives with Launi & Dave in Seattle, Washington.
- Olive boy (black male). His name is Oliver. He now lives with Melinda and family in Pleasanton, California, and with Shadow, who is River's aunt and grandma Scarlett's sister.
- Lavender girl (black female). Her name is Gondolin's Willow. Here she is with Janet, her new mom. She now lives in Pleasanton, California with her flat-coat uncle Sunny (River's Brother)
